Leather Work

Have you ever had a dream or goal you wish you could accomplish, but thought

it was too big of an idea? Well at a point and time Cierra thought the same thing, but that has now changed. Cierra has always had a passion for leatherwork and making things by hand. She started to make all her own horse tack out of leather. She wanted to start a business out of this hobby of hers. With a lot of time and effort, she transformed her hobby into a small business. Any goal or dream is always within reach if you are willing to work.

Cierra had been working with leather for about a year before she had actually

started taking in customers. A little before January 2018, is when her business really

started to blossom. She now continues to grow her little business in Tremonton Utah,

where she is from.

Growing up in a small rodeo town set the whole scene for Cierra. She had been

around horses her whole life and loved that lifestyle. Being around horses and all the

horse equipment made it easy for her to see what she liked and didn’t like in some of the tack. She wanted to start making her own tack to save some money, in the summer of 2017. Going around town in Tremonton to different people she knew, she started to learn how to create and love the work of leatherwork. She learned how to, from close family friends and her father. From there on out she started to build all her own tack and get all her own tools.

Leatherwork is a dying art, and there are not that many resources out there to learn

how. This makes it difficult for someone to start and learn how. If anyone knows or has seen handmade leather goods, they will know how much time and effort it takes. One thing with leather is, it never lies, meaning you can’t hide any of your mistakes. Once a mark has been made it will be there forever. So, it takes a lot of time and patience to get good and confident in your work. This is another reason not so many people do it, the time you put into a project, plus materials it is hard to make a good profit off it.

Cierra is continuing to expand her business and hopes to keep it growing. Diamond

S Leather focus on custom chaps, headstalls, journals, spur straps, and belts. But she

does do a lot of outside work also. She has made gun holsters, purses, and really

anything that could be made out of leather. Everything is handmade and custom for just that individual, making everything very unique and personal. ###
